Abby and Eason,
I love you guys so much, and I want you to know that no matter what you face you are known by Jesus.
The story of the woman at the well is on my heart this morning. You guys know that I go to this story often. It seems like each time I am there, I am focused on a different part of the story. But, for today, I want to focus on the fact that Jesus let the woman know that He knew her.
In today’s world, it is easy to feel alone. To feel like people wouldn’t understand what you’re facing. I have struggled with believing this a lot, and I have had to learn to let Jesus redirect that lie.
The woman at the well undoubtedly felt alone. Her people, the Samaritans, were rejected by the Jews. The Jews would even walk out of their way to avoid them. But, even when she was with her people, the Samaritan woman felt alone. She had married multiple men trying to find someone who knew her, and she hadn’t found that. The fact that she was drawing water at times that were separate from the other women leads us to believe that she did not feel acceptance with women.
Jesus talked to the Samaritan woman. He spoke to her in a personal way that let her know that He knew her. This changed her life. She realized that He was the Messiah.
Abby and Eason, I want you to know that Jesus knows you. He knows everything you have been through and everything you will face. Jesus reminds you, like He did the Samaritan woman, that a day is coming when we will celebrate together in Spirit and in truth. Jesus knows this world is broken. He doesn’t define us by what is happening here. He reminds you that you are known, secure, and loved. And, He wants to be with you. He wants you to be His child, permanently and eternally transformed by knowing the Messiah.
Jesus transformed my life in that way. I used to feel alone and didn’t believe anyone would understand my life if they knew the details of it. But, that simply isn’t true. Jesus knows me, and He loves me.
Other believers also know you, even if they don’t know the full details of what you have experienced in life. Fellow believers know that we all face sin and brokenness. We know that apart from Jesus there is no hope. So, we point each other back to Jesus.
We might not have all of the answers for the things we will face in this world, but we have this answer – it’s Jesus. And, that is the only answer we need. Go to Jesus. Give Him your emotions. Let him show you how to walk through this life. Remember that he knows you and is drawing you to Himself. Surrender your life to Jesus.
I love you both,
Mom
