Abby and Eason,
We are all created in the image of God. And we are all created differently. Our differences help us understand who He is. He is so much more than we could even imagine. On this earth, we will only see a taste of who He is. And, when He is revealed, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.
One thing I love about prayer is the opportunity to learn more about Jesus. In the last two letters you have heard me talking about prayer in ways that are natural to me based on how Jesus made me. I am naturally curious; I love stories; asking questions is part of who I am. But how I am made is less than a molecule of who Jesus is.
And that is why I love to talk to Jesus in nature. I love the contrast of colors between the leaves and the sky. I love trees that are stronger than we can ever understand. I love lady bugs that fly.
I love to drive in silence and observe nature. You don’t know this but one time I chose backroads all of the way from Oklahoma to Arkansas. I wanted to look at nature for hours and hours on end.
And, I love to get out and be in nature. Sitting in nature, away from noise, and hearing its sounds is life changing. I love to watch Abby take pictures of nature. I love when you guys mention the beautiful clouds.
I imagine the garden. I know that sitting in nature can’t compare. But, in the way I am capable of experiencing today, it takes me there. It reminds me of God’s heart to provide for us. It reminds me of His desire to commune with us. It reminds me of His Fatherly love to provide animals for our enjoyment.
Praying in nature, for me, is often about silence. I see a Creator. And, I know that He is the author of all things. He is the giver of life. He is our strength and our fortress.
And, I thank Him for that. Nature gives me the opportunity to thank Him for everything I don’t need to understand. The pressure of life, provision, shelter, and so many more things isn’t mine. God provided everything I needed. I get to thank Him for His provision, His beauty, and His insane love for us.
And, that opportunity exists every single day. Some days I am frustrated. I see the mess that we humans have made in this world. I see the brokenness that we are all trying to avoid. I see the consequences of sin.
In that place of frustration, I look at nature. I center myself in the Father who is present. God sees our mess, and He has never left us. He understands.
And He allows me to rest.
I encourage you to go somewhere in nature. What can you learn about the Father? He is all we need.
I love you both and I love your hearts for God,
Mom
