To my foster friend,

You don’t know this blog exists yet. And, that is okay for now. But I still want to write you a letter – in the middle of the drama.

This summer has been rough – really, really rough. And I am fully aware that no matter how hard it has been on me, it has been much worse for you.

I can’t imagine going into a new family, staring the word forever (adoption) in the face, and knowing that the past behind you still hurts so bad. How can you celebrate adoption while grieving that the family you once had was broken? How can you believe that your new family won’t leave you like so many others have?

I don’t have answers for your questions. But, I do have a foundation for your healing. Your foundation is in Jesus. He will never leave you or forsake you. He has loved you with an everlasting love and drawn you with His lovingkindness.

Jesus is the only Healer. Many people can offer “help” – counseling, medication, coping techniques, journaling, etc. But only through Jesus can you find healing. You have heard me talk about Jesus a lot this summer. I am aware that a lot of what I share is new.

And, even in the statements I have made about Jesus in this blog, I know you have questions. Why? Why did he let you endure the things you went through? Why didn’t he force your family to stay through the hard times? There are 1000 more why’s but for your privacy, I can’t list them on a blog.

I hope that you will learn to ask Jesus these questions. He can handle them. When you do, I believe He will show you His heart. He will show you His love. He will show you that He hates sin and brokenness. He will show you that He pursued wholeness even at the cost of His life. He wants a relationship with you.

As you talk to Jesus, you will find answers to these questions and more. I hope you will let me lead you on this journey. I hope that your love for Jesus will become the foundation of your life.

Until then, know this. You are loved by this family. Things have been really hard. But that is what family is all about. We love through the hard times. And, it doesn’t matter if you are our foster daughter or adoptive daughter, we want to love you through the hard times.

I hope that you will learn to trust and begin to see how families work.

We love you,

Mom
